Frequently Asked Questions
Have any questions about what we can do? Check here to see if you can find an answer to them. If you don’t see an answer to your question here, feel free to contact us directly.
- What is Distinctive’s design process for planning a kitchen or bathroom?
- Our Certified Cabinetry Designer can by appointment visit your home or review design plans if the space has not been constructed yet.
- A design will be created using 3D Cabinetry Industry software and a proposal will be developed. There is no charge for the initial visit and consultation, however, designs or renderings will not be released until a good faith design deposit is provided. The design deposit will be applied to future cabinetry orders. This design retainer will ensure that we have made a commitment to each other to work towards the goal of finalizing a completed design that meets your satisfaction.
- Meetings are available in person or by video conference to ensure your project’s momentum continues. There is no set limit to the number of meetings allowed to achieve the final design. During those meetings, we will finalize the selection of the finish materials for your project.
- Before any cabinetry is ordered, we will visit the project site for a final measurement to establish accuracy of measurements.
- There will be a contract provided, which includes design details and payment process. Our contract typically includes cabinetry, delivery, installation, and sales tax.
- Once the cabinetry has been ordered, we will stay in touch with you to inform you of the manufacturer’s delivery and installation times. Your timeline will vary depending on the length of production time required and the completion of the jobsite. Our project manager and staff will keep you updated along the way.
- Is there a warranty for your products?
Yes, cabinets come with a limited lifetime warranty. Each warranty varies depending on the manufacturer’s guidelines.
- How long does the process take? Why? Do you accept rush orders, and what is the cost for the rush?
The design process takes as long is required to produce a final design. Most customers schedule several appointments over a period of time to gradually make all the decisions (layout, cabinet door styles, finish, cabinet accessories, appliances, countertops, contractor, etc…) for the completion of the final design. Once ordered, the manufacturing process time can vary from 3-15 weeks. Timelines will vary based on the scale and complexity of your project. Be prepared to add time for any holidays that may occur while your home is under construction as it will extend your project’s completion time. Our cabinetry is designed and is built just for you! We offer several cabinetry lines that will allow us to expedite your order with a small fee applied. We will be happy to review the parameters with you to see if the product meets your needs.

- How do I care for and maintain my cabinetry?
Cabinetry care instructions are provided in your contract to guide you through the maintenance process.
- Can you work with contractors, designers, or architects?
Absolutely! We frequently collaborate with contractors, designers, and architects to provide cohesive project integration.
- What should I prepare for my design consultation?
It is beneficial for you to bring your floorplans and/or sketches, photos of the space, and fabrics that you may want to incorporate into the design.
- How do I select my cabinetry for my project?
Having an idea of what you like, and just as importantly, what you don’t like is very helpful information. However, we can walk you through the process to discern what styles, colors, and selecting accessories that reflect your personal taste. Our design center has attractive, interactive displays as examples of cabinetry we offer. We also have numerous color samples blocks and door style options available to choose from. This will help us guide you and simplify the design approach for your project.
- Can I customize the color of my cabinetry?
Absolutely! At Distinctive, we offer several cabinetry lines that offer us the flexibility to choose any Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore paint fan colors. In addition, if you’re trying to match the color and door style of existing cabinetry, we can send your sample for matching. Please plan for a little extra time for the completion of those samples as they do extend the completion time.
- Who fabricates and installs the cabinetry?
Our experienced and skilled craftsmen handle our fabrication, while experienced installation technicians safeguard that with precision. We are open to some of our clients who may have a favorite handyman/installer they prefer to use. However, one thing to consider is that our installers are familiar with our products lines, communicate more easily, and handle any nuances that may occur during installation. If you do choose your own installer, make sure they are licensed and registered with the state and that they are insured as well. We will not be responsible for replacing any damage to products when using outside installation services.
- What are DCHC business hours?
Our Design Studio is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. Saturday visits are available by appointment only. We welcome you to come by and visit but we advise calling ahead to make an appointment if you would like a guided tour or to sit down with our designer to discuss your project. We ask that you allow for at least 1-2 hours for the initial consultation. We also have the availability to set up appointments via electronic services.
- Do you offer any other products besides kitchens?
At Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country, along with Kitchens, we can also design other areas such as bathrooms, laundry, mudrooms, butlers’ pantries, locker areas, custom walk-in closets, bars, libraries, outdoor kitchens, and entertainment areas.
